Shoot For The Stars Bath Bomb (New Edition)

I've already established that it's better to trust Lush in all of their decisions, until proven unwise, and this sentiment is definitely most tested when they decide to revamp one of my favourite products. After learning that Shoot For The Stars Bath Bomb was being given a make over for this year's seasonal range, it was definitely a feat to remain calm until I'd had a chance to try it out and dispel those worries.

Released back in 2014, this was one of those products that won my heart over immediately; the scent, the design, the effect it had in the bath was near on perfect. Everything about it was incredible, and while Lush rarely release a bath bomb that is not on par with previous releases, it is also rare for them to bring out one that has such a strong impact on me, as this one did.

Sharing its scent with the Honey I Washed The Kids range, it was the first time I was able to try this fragrance family in bath bomb format. Far stronger than most of the other products with the same scent - mostly notably Ma Bar and Gold FUN, this bath bomb is the perfect combination of theatrics and aroma, and is definitely a contender for seasonal ballistic of the year.

Sporting a vivid shade of blue and decorated with three golden stars across the surface, this bath bomb is definitely very different from the original version. While it is perhaps not as captivating to look at as its older sibling, it is by no means a boring looking item and I love the fact that it does not sport a design that is strictly 'Christmas'. I am really hoping that this will replace the now-discontinued Honey Bee - making it another permanent vegan fixture in the shops and offering consumers something a little more interesting and different than the aforementioned bomb.

Touching upon the scent once more, Shoot For The Stars is packed full of orange oil and bergamot oil - two ingredients that give this bomb a rich and very sickly sweet aroma. While the smell is described as a 'honeyed' one, this is only because the original fragrance contained honey in the ingredients list. This bath bomb, as with everything else in this scent range, is far sweeter and has a strong scent of orange running through it that elevates the smell and gives the product a sort of toffee-esque element to it.

This smell is definitely very complex and multi-layered, and the more you smell the bath bomb, the more you can detect a soft but strong element of cocoa butter running underneath the other components. It is this that gives the fragrance its muskiness and helps to create that warm, slightly buttery toffee and orange notes.

As if the scent wasn't enough to bowl you over, you only have to place this in the bath tub for an explosion of colour to begin immediately. Waves of vivid blue fizzes and froths out across the surface of the water - offering a very satisfying crackling sound to go along with it. As the ballistic gets smaller, the golden stars (of which there are six in total) begin to ebb streams of golden yellow into the blue, lacing the water with threads of gold and turning the water a deep shade of green.

These six stars are each minature bath melts made from a combination of cocoa butter and almond oil, and as the stars separate into the water, they continue to melt down slowly and form little puddles of nourishing oils across the surface of the tub. I should tell you now that this bath bomb is easily one of, if not the most moisturising bath bomb that Lush has ever released. For those who are prone to oilier skin or anyone wanting to wash their hair in the bath tub, I highly suggest that you remove some or all of these stars as soon as they separate from the bath bomb as you will find the whole experience quite greasy.

I should state that the bath itself is not overly greasy - I didn't find the stars were too much moisture for one bath, and for someone who gets parched skin in the winter months, this is the perfect remedy to soften and nourish my skin immediately. There was no staining or residue around the outside of the tub and even the ends of my hair, that had been dipped in the water, didn't feel any different once I had dried myself down. However, I can imagine that some people may find the silkiness of the water a little too much for their skin and may want to consider reducing the number of melts present to begin with.

My only qualm with this bath bomb, when compared to the original design of Shoot For The Stars, is that I prefer the deep shade of blue that the original offered. The reason being is that the dark blue alongside the speckles of silver lustre where much more fitting of the product's name, and the combination of forest green water and orbs of golden oils are not as related to the name. Having said that, the pattern across the surface are very beautiful to observe and this bath bomb is definitely more moisturising than last year's version.

Aside from the above difference, this bath bomb is prevalent and long-lasting in the water, stays on your skin for hours after bathing with it and offers you everything you could possibly want in a winter bath bomb. Overall, I happen to love this design just as much as I loved the older release and I will definitely be buying a generous handful to see me through the year.
